Recent Projects include:
- The redevelopment of the Lion Match Building, located in the Long Island City Central Business District; the ground floor of this 4-story building, which was built in 1910, has been leased to HSBC Bank for its Queens regional headquarters.
- The repositioning of a former factory located in Astoria, adjacent to the Kaufman Astoria Studios, to retail; space in this building has been leased to Applebee’s and Panera Bread restaurants.
John Werwaiss, President and CEO
John has run Werwaiss & Co., Inc. since 1974. He earned a BA from Georgetown Unversity and attended Bernard Baruch Graduate School of Business, City College of New York. John is currently on the boards of the Long Island City Business Development Corporation, Fidelis Care New York and Doyle New York. He is the past Chairman of the Board of Regis High School in New York City, past member of the Board of Regents of Georgetown University and the former Chairman and CEO of Realty Growth Investors (REIT).
Gretchen Werwaiss, Partner
After practicing law for 14 years, Gretchen joined Werwaiss & Co., Inc. in January 2009. At Werwaiss & Co. Inc., Gretchen focuses on leasing and marketing, she works with tenants to realize city and NY state-offered tax benefits and oversees all legal issues. Gretchen earned a BA from Georgetown University and a JD from Georgetown University Law Center. She is the current President of the Board of Trustees of the Queens Museum of Art and is a member of the board of the Long Island City Business Improvement District (LIC BID).
Carolyn Harris, Vice President - Finance
Carolyn has been at Werwaiss & Co., Inc. since 1975. Carolyn oversees the accounting and financial management of Werwaiss & Co., Inc. and manages all aspects of operation for the office. Carolyn earned an A.S. in Accounting from Hudson County Community College and a Certificate in Business Management from Rutgers University. Carolyn serves on the Board of the East Rockaway Education Foundation.
Shakia Hill, Property Manager
Shakia joined Werwaiss & Co., Inc. full time in 2005. Shakia handles property management and tenant construction-related issues. She is a licensed NY State Real Estate Salesperson and has earned her Real Property Administration designation from the Building Owners and Managers Institute (BOMI). She earned a B.S. in Computer Science from Pace University.
